Premier League: Jack Hinshelwood, the latest trick of the conjurer De Zerbi: from midfielder… to scoring full-back
Roberto de Zerbi has become the great conjurer of the Premier. His last trick has a name and surname: Jack Luca Hinshelwood (Worthing, 11-4-2005).
De Zerbi made his debut on the last day of the last Premier -he was 18 years and one month old- and now, faced with Brighton’s plague of injuries, it has radically transformed him: From organizing midfielder he has become a scoring right back.
“Hinshelwood could be Pascal Gross’s son. I would love to have 3 or 4 Gross and 3 or 4 Hinshelwood on my team. They can play in any position: forward, winger, center… The only difference between them is age, although Jack, being young, plays like a veteran,” says the ‘seagulls’ coach.

The formula works. Brighton’s ’41’ scored, with a header, the winning goal against Brentford (2-1) – he was named ‘MVP’ – and scored again in the win against Tottenham (4-2).“It was incredible to score in my first game at the Amex in front of our fans. The ovation they gave me when I left moved me. Everyone, with the coach and my teammates at the helm, has shown great faith in me and I just try to reciprocate them,” she said, after her scoring debut, on ‘Amazon Prime’.
De Zerbi’s faith in Hinshelwood is only growing: “He has personality and is very intelligent on the field. “He is going to become an important player not only for Brighton, but also for the Premier.”

Son, grandson and great-grandson of a footballer
Jack was born with a ball under his arm. His father, Adam, played for Brighton and is now a manager.His grandfather played for Crystal Palace and his grandfather played for Fulham and Chelsea. The thing doesn’t end there. His great-uncle, Martin, also played for Palace and his uncle ‘did her first steps’ at Brighton. There are, in total, four generations of Hinshelwood. A unique family tree in football.
However, Jack, an England U19 international, has something that makes him special. “It’s a little different to the other Hinshelwood. My uncle Martin was the only midfielder in the family. The rest of us played defense. Jack, on the other hand, is technically good, has a good range of passes… He likes to go forward and score goals. I don’t know how this could have happened. I guess he will end up delaying his position“, confesses his father, Adam, laughing.

Jack shines at Brighton, but his father prefers to take it step by step: “He probably has enough pressure knowing that his great-grandfather, his grandfather, his father and his great-uncle all played football. I just want him to enjoy it.”. For now he enjoys it and we all enjoy it. De Zerbi’s latest ‘trick’ scores a goal in the Premier. And on the right side!!!
