“James is a ‘boom’, but little by little the souffle is lowering”

TFollowing the recent victory of Rayo Vallecano about Real Valladolid on Matchday 9 of LaLiga, the sports director of the Vallecas club, David Cobeñooffered statements before the match that shed light on the team’s expectations and goals.

Perspectives and news

Cobeño highlighted the importance of the new Argentine goalkeeper, Augusto Batalla. “It was one of the objectives in the summer to reinforce the goal. We had Cárdenas who was performing well and Augusto, we knew him from last year, from following him for a while and from having spoken with him. “We knew the personality he has and what he could give on the field, and so far he is performing very well.”

He also referred to the impact of James Rodríguez and compared it to the arrival that Radamel Falcao had at the time. “These players who are internationally known and have a huge legion of followers, we knew that it was going to have a lot of impact. We have to do it in the best way. We already had the example of Falcao and with James it will be the same. At first a ‘boom’ for everyone, but little by little the souffle will go down and everything will go to a normal level. “The player is delighted, we are all delighted and we are giving him normality.”

Finally, he spoke about the arrival of Iñigo Pérez to the club. A coach who has been assuming past ideas and where his work has shown results. “When we made the change with Iñigo it was for that reason, because we wanted to return to what had given us good performance with Andoni. Iñigo comes from adding, from being second, and we knew that at the beginning we were going to pay a small toll because the season was not going as well as possible, but we knew that this year with a good preseason and from the beginning things were going to go well with Íñigo.”

The club is now losing players due to the international break. Two weeks without games and with the mentality of being able to face the next games of the month. They are direct rivals and the club must beat them if it wants to meet its main objective.: stay in first.
