Arda Güler forces a penalty for handball… but Çalhanoglu’s goal is disallowed for touching her with both feet!!!

The Iceland-Türkiye of the 4th day of the Nations League led to an incredible event, almost unprecedented in the world of football. It was minute 54, with the home side 1-0, when the refereethe Polish Damian Sylwestrzak, awarded a penalty, at the request of the VAR, by the hands of Ingason swears.

The really striking thing came later. Hakan Çalhanoglualmost infallible from 11 meters, failed. Or rather, he scored. He completely fooled Hakon Valdimarsson… but the goal did not go up on the scoreboard.

Immediately, both the goalkeeper and Daniel Leo Gretarsson alerted the referee of an irregularity: Çalhanoglu had hit the ball twice. He shot with his right, slipped and touched it with his left. Hence the goal was (well) annulled and the game will resume with an indirect free kick.

Çalhanoglu, however, had the chance to redeem himself, again, thanks to VAR in the 67th minute. Merih Demiral headed and the ball hit the hands of Andri Gudjohnsen, son of the legendary Eidur. On this occasion, the Interista slowly headed towards the penalty spot and did not cause the slip. He scored to make it 2-1 for Türkiye.
