Andorra will hold the first Freeride world championships in history in 2026

The Freeride World Tour (FWT) has announced that Andorra will host the first FIS Freeride World Championshipswhich will take place from February 1 to 6, 2026 at the station Ordino Arcalís. This event will mark a historic moment for this sport, as it will be the first time that freeride will hold World Cups under the umbrella of the International Ski Federation (FIS).

Andorra has been a reference destination for freeride for more than ten years and hosting the World Championships will consolidate its position as the global epicenter of this discipline. The event will not only bring together the best freeriders on the planet, but will also elevate the sport to new heights, offering an unprecedented platform for freeride skiing and snowboarding.

The marketing director of Grandvalira Resorts, David Ledesma, has explained that “After more than 10 years of permanent presence on the FWT circuit, we believed that our commitment to freeride should reach new objectives and we worked with the FIS Freeride to become the first organizers in the history of the World Championships in our sport. For Andorra and Ordino Arcalís, which have already become a world leader in freeride, it is important to create a legacy that helps freeride grow.”

For his part, the founder and CEO of the Freeride World Tour, Nicolas Hale-Woods, has reinforced its commitment to the Principality as host, highlighting the excellence of the destination: “Andorra has proven to be a premium freeride destination for more than a decade, with first-class settings and exceptional hospitality. The FIS Freeride is very excited to write history with our Andorran partners. “The FIS Freeride World Championships are an important step in bringing freeride skiing and snowboarding to audiences around the world.” The qualification system for these first FIS Freeride World Championships will be announced in December 2024, after final validation by the FIS Council on October 23.

In parallel, today the calendar of the FIS Freeride World Tour by Peak Performance 2025 was announced, which will have six events around the world. On this occasion, Andorra will not be one of the venues for the 2025 circuit, since it will be fully focused on the organization of the 2026 World Cups.reaffirming its commitment to the success of this historic event.
