Zelensky admits direct peace talks with Moscow

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, admitted this Saturday that the new proposed peace plan for Ukraine should allow direct negotiations with the Russian Federation.

“The plan will be ready at the beginning of November. It will be a start for some basis for talking in any format with Russia. In any format. With any of its representatives. Because there will be a plan”, assured the Ukrainian leader in a statement.

Zelensky explained that three of the points of this peace plan have already been achieved, which would allow Russia to be invited to a second peace conference, like the one held in Switzerland on June 15th and 16th.

“There cannot be an end to the war without one of the parties involved”, argued Zelensky, although he is convinced that Russia wants to continue the war, which is why he questioned Moscow’s willingness to participate in the peace conference, which it could hold up this year.

Zelensky insists that, first of all, it is necessary for Ukraine to strengthen itself as much as possible before the meeting.

Corroborating this idea of the President’s concern, the head of Ukrainian diplomacy, Andrí Bibiga, warned today that Russia is preparing to attack nuclear installations, to further restrict access to the country’s electricity before winter.

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister said that the attacks could affect “open distribution systems at nuclear power plants and transmission substations, crucial for the safe operation of nuclear energy.”

“The damage to these facilities represents a high risk of a nuclear incident with global consequences,” warned Bibiga, referring to the Zaporijia nuclear plant, occupied by Moscow forces.

Russian attacks on the Ukrainian energy system forced Ukrainian authorities to implement systematic power cuts during the summer and there are fears that the situation could become even more serious in winter.
