Vilamoura Marina, the oldest in Portugal, turns 50: discover the story that was born from Cupertino de Miranda’s “dream”

It is completing half a century since the inauguration of the Vilamoura marina, the oldest in Portugal, and which resulted from the ambition of the Portuguese banker, António Cupertino de Miranda, to create a top international development in the Algarve in the 1970s.

“Today it seems like a normal thing, but at the time Cupertino de Miranda was a man of great vision and courage”, emphasizes Isolete Correia, administrator of the Vilamoura marina, who has been ‘at home’ for 52 years and worked with the banker. “The question was asked at the time: why have a marina with a thousand berths? And this when there wasn’t even a marina in Portugal”.
