Victory for the far right generates a wave of calls for a republican union, but it may already be too late
The first projections of the legislative elections in France arrived at 8pm on Sunday, with the closure of the last polling station. Reagrupamento Nacional (RN, extreme right) and its allies dominated the first round, with around 34% of the votes. In second place, the left-wing coalition Nova Frente Popular (NFP) – which ranges from socialists to the radical left, including ecologists – obtained 28.1% of the votes, leaving behind supporters of President Emmanuel Macron (liberal), with around 20.3%.
