Ventura threatens with a motion of censure if the Madeira government does not comply with demands

The president of Chega justified this Friday the feasibility of the Government of Madeira’s program so that the region does not have elections again, but warned that the party will present a motion to censorship if its demands are not met.

In statements to journalists at the Assembly of the Republic, in Lisbon, André Ventura said that the party placed four demands on the Regional Government: the creation of an autonomous office to prevent and combat corruption o, an external audit of the regional accounts of the last five years, the creation of a regional parliamentary commission of inquiry into the support granted in recent years by the Regional Government to companies and, also, the resignation of the president of the executive of the archipelago, Miguel Albuquerque, if he is formally accused in the case regarding alleged corruption.

The leader of Chega said that the Regional Government accepted these demands and, therefore, the party abstained, making the Government Program viable.

Asked whether Chega backed down, given that André Ventura always defended that his party would only make it viable if Miguel Albuquerque was not the president of the Regional Government, he replied: “Chega negotiated and thought it was better than sending the region back to elections.†And he left a warning that if these demands are not met, “Chega will immediately present a motion of censure to the Regional Government”.

André Ventura promised that his party will carry out a “daily and permanent scrutiny”.

The Madeiran parliament approved on Thursday the Program of the XV Regional Government, with 22 votes in favor from the PSD, the CDS-PP and the PAN, 21 votes against from the PS, the JPP and a deputy from Chega, and four abstentions. Chega and IL.
