Ventura accuses prime minister of arrogance and reinforces call for police to speak out

The president of Chega accused the prime minister of arrogance for say that the Government will not put more money into the proposal for the security forces and reinforced the call for police officers to speak out.

“The Prime Minister of Portugal, who promised to solve a problem that the previous Government created, tells the country, as if in defiance, as if in pride, as if in arrogance, that he will not give another cent neither to the police nor to the security forces. This shows how the Government has never had, does not have and will not have sensitivity to the fundamental issue of security forces” , said André Ventura.

The leader of Chega spoke to journalists at the Assembly of the Republic, in reaction to the Prime Minister’s statements. Luís Montenegro stated that the Government will not put “one more cent” into the proposal for the security forces, saying that it has already made “a terrible effort” and is not available to ” bring back financial instability.”

“This is not a question of cents, this is not a question of giving more or giving less or standing still, This is not a question of tantrums. This is a historical injustice created by the previous Government and which the right had a duty to resolve”, argued André Ventura.

The president of Chega considered that “it is clear that the Government neither wants nor will resolve the problem”, but appealed to the PSD, and also to the PS, to put their “hands on their conscience” and approve the proposal of the Enough for the risk supplement attributed to the Judiciary Police to be extended to the PSP, GNR and prison guards.

André Ventura argued that Chega’s proposal “is non-partisan and aims to solve a problem without creating more divisions and without creating any adjacent problems” and aims for this supplement to be “attributed equally to all police officers and security forces with risk functions”.

“This is no longer a question of financial viability, this is a question of pure and simple discrimination by police and trampling and humiliation”, he maintained.

Ventura also accused the Government of “fomenting division, frustration and indignation among the police and security forces” and reinforced the call for them to speak out in Thursday.

“I think that with this definitive and clear statement from the Prime Minister it becomes even more evident and clearer why all security forces, why all police officers, have to be here in parliament next Thursday, to hear the debate, to show their indignation outside parliament, but also inside parliament to be able to show, to be able to see, those who say they were at side of them and that in fact they won’t be”, he defended.

Pointing out that negotiations with the security forces “were just a ruse, they were just a cloud of smoke”, Ventura considered that now “it makes even more sense for them to show their indignation, but also ©in their revolt over a prime minister who failed them and lied to them.”

“Those who live poorly with democracy are those who don’t like spontaneous demonstrations and civic participation,” he stated.

The Chega leader also addressed the general secretary of the PS, Pedro Nuno Santos, blaming the previous government for the situation and considering that “it is either hypocrisy or a lack of shame on the face that the PS has As we move forward, he feels he can take advantage of the elections.”

André Ventura also argued that now “the time is no longer for the unions” because this issue “has not been resolved until now”, and that it is now up to the parties and the Assembly of the Republic to resolve it.
