“The Nutri-Score needs to be improved, but it is very interesting from a public health point of view”
Protagonist of the Mediterranean diet, considered by many experts as a healthy eating pattern, olive oil can appear on supermarket shelves with a worse rating than certain sugary, frozen products or ultra-processed. This fact may cause surprise to consumers who are not familiar with Nutri-Score, the simplified nutritional labeling system that is far from consensual and that, after having had the green light to be applied in a generalized way in Portugal by part of the previous Executive, it was once again of optional and voluntary use.
