EThis week, the United Kingdom closed its last coal plant, becoming the first country in the group of seven most industrialized countries (the G7) to do so. Here, the two coal plants were closed in 2021, one in January and the other in November, and one of them — the EDP plant in Sines — is being transformed into a green hydrogen production unit. In China, new wind and solar projects approved in the first half of this year exceeded coal projects for the first time, despite 14 new plants coming into operation last year.
