The administration of Viseu Hospital resigned, following statements by the Minister of Health

The Board of Directors of the Viseu Dão-Lafões Local Health Unit (ULSVDL) resigned en bloc, this Thursday, for what it considers to be a “breach of political trust†of the Minister of HealthAna Paula Martins, to the management team.

In a letter written and addressed to ULS professionals, to which Expresso had access, the administration chaired by Nuno Miguel Domingues Duarte writes that “the recent public statements by the Minister of Health, during a parliamentary hearing that took place yesterday, constituted a clear breach of political trust in the body’s current team. management of ULSVDL†.

At issue is a statement from the minister this Wednesdayin Parliament, when he announced the creation of a commission to audit hospital management boards.

At that time, Ana Paula Martins cconsidered that health leadership is “weak†and said that it would not be acceptable to have hospitals with professionals in January that had already reached the amount of mandatory annual overtime. “What is easy is to get halfway through the year and realize that the indicators are not good,†he said.

Now, on May 21st the Viseu Hospital announced that it was going to ‘close the door’ of the Pediatric Emergency at night throughout the month of June, justifying the decision with the lack of pediatricians to provide all care in pediatrics and newborns in the birthing unit.

“There are only 15 specialists carrying out emergency work (eight during the day and seven at night), and it is certain that many will reach the legal limit of overtime in the summer†, in this case 150 or 250 hours for doctors with full dedication, the hospital wrote.

Viseu thus emerged as the first constraint on the summer holiday map.
