Search for sunken fishermen could include diving on Monday

The commander of the Captaincy of the Port of Nazaré stated this Sunday that, if sea conditions allow, diving could be carried out on Monday next to the vessel “Virgem Dolorosa†, which sank in Wednesday off Marinha Grande.

The search for the three fishermen who disappeared in the sinking of their fishing vessel continues today by land and sea.

Commander João Severino Lourenço told the Lusa agency that “there is no news†since Friday, and that searches continue in the region by land and sea using Amarok vehicles from the Seawatch project , the Maritime Police, and the lifeguard stations in the ports of Nazaré and Figueira da Foz.

On Monday, and if sea conditions permit, dives may be carried out next to the accident vessel, which will be accompanied by members of the Maritime Police Forensic Diving Group.

The alert for the adornment of the fishing vessel “Virgem Dolorosa†was given at 4:33 on Wednesday to the local command of the Nazaré Maritime Police.

Three crew members died, 11 were rescued and there are three missing, natives of Praia da Leirosa, in Figueira da Foz.

During the day on Saturday, the funerals of the three fatal victims took place in Figueira da Foz and Lavos.

The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, attended the wake that took place in Figueira da Foz in the morning and visited relatives of those missing in Leirosa and Alqueidão.
