Russian opposition leader hospitalized in prison: lawyers unable to contact Vladimir Kara-Murza

The leader of the Russian opposition, Vladimir Kara-Murza, was transferred to a prison hospital without his lawyers being able to contact him, accused the politician’s wife, Yevgenya Kara-Murza – recently interviewed by Expresso —, on the social network Facebook.

“When the lawyers arrived at the hospital they were informed that Vladimir was not there, but after the end of the working day they confirmed his arrival and asked to return the following day”, according to the same source, who detailed that the transfer occurred on Thursday afternoon.

This Friday the authorities also did not allow lawyers to have access to Kara-Murza and visits are also prevented at the weekend.

After surviving two poisoning attempts, the politician’s health problems may have worsened with prison, Yevgenya added.

Kara-Murza was arrested in April 2022 for allegedly collaborating with NATO countries and discrediting the Armed Forces in a speech to the House of Representatives in the US state of Arizona. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison for “high treason”.

Considered a prisoner of conscience by Amnesty International, the Russian was awarded the Václav Havel Prize for Human Rights 2022 by the Council of Europe.

The politician wrote opinion articles for outlets such as “The Washington Post”.
