Riots in Lisbon: Government guarantees “reinforced security”, including on buses, and “all means of surveillance”

After 72 hours of disrespect in neighborhoods in Greater Lisbon, the Government guarantees that there will be “reinforced security”, including on buses, and “all means of surveillance” will be used to stop the wave of violence. According to the Minister of the Presidency, António Leitão Amaro, the reinforcement of policing was already “very visible” on Tuesday in the most vulnerable neighborhoods and the Executico will continue to program the reinforcement of security in other areas of the country.

“We use all the means that the Portuguese State has to guarantee security. We share with the mayors, the willingness of the Government and security authorities to use all means of surveillance, from in-person to cyber, to networks, to detect and prevent all wrong behavior“, said António Leitão Amaro at the end of the meeting between the Government and the mayors of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, after three days of riots following the death of a man by a PSP agent in Cova da Moura (Amadora).
