Pyongyang prepares to destroy disused inter-Korean roads

South Korea said on Monday it had detected signs that North Korea was preparing to destroy the northern part of inter-Korean roads that are no longer used.

The South Korean military said it discovered that North Korea was preparing the explosions, according to the Associated Press news agency. It is not clear which parts of the roads North Korea will destroy, the agency added.

North Korea said on October 11 that the South sent ‘drones’ with anti-regime propaganda leaflets to the capital, Pyongyang, at least three times last week, and released photographs of one of the unmanned aerial vehicles, captured on camera. night.

The North Korean army announced that it has ordered artillery units positioned along the border with South Korea to open fire if they detect new ‘drones’ from the neighboring country.

Artillery units “in the vicinity of the border line” received an order from the military high command on October 12 to “fully prepare to open fire”, says a note from the spokesman of the North Korean General Staff, published by the agency state news station KCNA.

Last week, North Korea said it would permanently block its border with the South and build front-line defense structures to face “confrontation hysteria” from South Korean and American forces.

Tensions on the Korean peninsula have reached their highest point in years, with North Korea pursuing weapons tests and the South and United States stepping up military exercises.

According to KCNA, North Korea last week tested a long-range artillery system that observers say poses a direct threat to Seoul, the South Korean capital just an hour’s drive from the border.
