PS/Madeira considers negotiations for the Government Program “an act”

The leader of PS/Madeira, Paulo Cafôfo, today considered that the negotiations to reach consensus on a regional government program are “a farce and an act”, refuting the accusations irresponsible actions directed at him by the PSD.

“For me, this [negociações entre o executivo madeirense e o Chega para tentar viabilizar um programa governativo na Assembleia Regional] It’s all a farce and an act”, said the island’s socialist leader at a press conference next to Madeira International Airport – Cristiano Ronaldo, in the municipality of Santa Cruz.

Paulo Cafôfo was reacting to the accusations made by the president of the Regional Government, the social democrat Miguel Albuquerque, who on Saturday said it was “total irresponsibility” for the PS and JPP to have refused to dialogue, contrasting with the stance of “responsibility” ” and “humility” of Chega, IL, PAN and CDS-PP.

On Monday, the Regional Government, represented by the secretaries of Education (Jorge Carvalho) and Finance (Rogério Gouveia), and by the chief of staff of the president of the island executive, Rui Abreu, has held meetings with deputies from PAN, IL, CDS-PP and Chega, to reach consensus on measures for the Government Program.

The other parties with parliamentary seats, PS and JPP, rejected the invitation to negotiate the approval of this document, which also makes a Regional Budget unfeasible, forcing the region to be managed with a duo regime. ©cimos.

This round came about after, on June 19, the president of the Regional Executive decided to withdraw the proposal for a Government Program that was being discussed two days ago in the Legislative Assembly of Madeira, because it had announced lead, after having failed a round of meetings with different parties.

The PS, JPP and Chega, which have a total of 24 deputies in a universe of 47 members that make up the Madeiran parliament (which means an absolute majority), maintained that they would vote against the proposal the following day.

After the meetings, the sole deputies of PAN and IL have already concluded the negotiations, after having agreed on the measures to be integrated, with the liberal Nuno Morna indicating that he will abstain and the elected People-Animals- Natureza, Mónica Freitas, ensured the viability of the proposal and made the voting direction dependent on the Government Program.

The CDS-PP, which has two deputies, signed a parliamentary influence agreement with the PSD after the May 26 elections.

Negotiations continue with Chega on Monday, with the party insisting on the removal of Miguel Albuquerque, which has been rejected by the PSD.

Today, the Madeiran socialist leader recalled that it was Miguel Albuquerque who, during the electoral campaign and when he was received by the representative of the Republic, who “said he did not dialogue with the PS”, arguing that “the PS cannot be blamed when the right doesn’t understand.”

“Because the person who guaranteed that he had the conditions to form a government and have the motion of confidence approved in the Regional Assembly was Miguel Albuquerque”, he said.

Cafôfo added that “the person who guaranteed that he would support this same government was Chega Madeira”, reinforcing that it is these actors who must be held responsible for the current situation of political impasse.

To emphasize that the negotiations are an act, the elected socialist pointed out the absence of Miguel Albuquerque at the negotiating table, which, in his opinion, highlights the “arrogance” of the leader of the PSD

He also censured the stance of “Chega who says that a Government with Miguel Albuquerque cannot be made viable, another time he says that perhaps it will already be possible and has the doors open”, contributing to prolonging “the suspense” among Madeirans who remain unaware if they will have a Government.

Paulo Cafofo stressed that they were not in the measure of a Government Program, because many of the previous executives were never executed, but rather the trust in Miguel Albuquerque.

He insisted that the argument about Madeira’s problems living in twelfths is “a manipulation with the aim of creating fear in people, of victimizing themselves (…), already thinking about early elections “, which, he said, do not benefit the region.
