PS changes its position and wants to recognize the State of Palestine now. Government says mediation is “more demanding” but bears “fruits”

If six months ago, the left, with the exception of the PS, expressed itself in favor of the immediate recognition of the State of Palestine, in plenary, it has now shown itself to be even more united, with the socialists changing their position and also defend this path this Friday in Parliament, which earned them fierce criticism from the Executive. Pedro Duarte, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, insisted that recognizing the State of Palestine now could have negative consequences, believing that Portugal should continue to assume the role of mediator in the conflict, with a view to a lasting peace solution for the region.
