Presidential immunity “benefited” Trump, but could still benefit Biden (if Trump wins “and comes after him”)

Donald Trump lost the 2020 elections but did not accept it, which had even been a political practice in the USA: it happened with Al Gore and it happened with Hillary. However, never before has there been an invasion of the Capitol. And never before has an American President (or former President) been accused of conspiring to subvert the election results, among other serious charges.

His political days, Trump, seemed to have come to an end. But they didn’t arrive. Despite having been tried and found guilty (he is the first former President in North American history to be so) in New York in the case of Stormy Daniels, despite being held accountable in court in Georgia (for attempting to invalidate the results elections in that state) and Florida (for illegally storing confidential material in the Mar-a-Lago mansion), the most serious process, precisely that of the invasion of the Capitol, lost (for now) some strength.

The US Supreme Court granted partial immunity to the former President this Monday, determining that his “official” acts as head of state are protected, although his “unofficial” ones are not. is to say that Donald Trump — who immediately declared this decision “a great victory†— will not appear in court before the November elections.

Joe Biden, President and opponent of Donald Trump, considered this Supreme Court decision “um dia negro†and one of the judges (a liberal among an ultraconservative majority) who voted against said they made Trump “a king above the law†.

In an interview with Expresso, Miguel da C̢mara Machado, professor of Comparative Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon and specialist in North American Law, believes that Trump, even if he wins the elections, even if he nominates men for judicial positions, it cannot annul processes that are currently taking place at the state level Рand even less will it be able to forgive itself.

Trump has not yet won at the polls, but he has already “benefited†here, considers Miguel da Câmara Machado. Him and not only him. “This decision benefits Trump, but it also protects Biden. When there are people who say that President Trump would persecute Biden, he is also benefiting from this presidential immunity,” he guarantees.
