Paulo Raimundo recognizes the PCP’s “difficulties” and calls for “more activism”

Not once, but twice: Paulo Raimundo asks the PCdoB for “more activism”. Regarding the XXII Congress of the PCP, scheduled for December this year, Paulo Raimundo reflected on the recent electoral clashes that did not benefit the communists and left several appeals to the party’s bases to work towards increasing the number of militants. “We need to have more cadres, more activism, more intervention to face all these challenges [do combate ao Governo à afirmação das propostas comunistas]”, launches the secretary general of the PCP in interview to the newspaper “Avante!” And, at another point, he asks: “We have to have more audacity, more creativity, more militancy.”

This year, Paulo Raimundo’s leadership faced three elections (legislative, regional in Madeira and European) and, in two of them, suffered the worst results of all time. In the legislative elections, the party went from six to four deputies, falling behind the Bloco de Esquerda and with a bench equivalent to that of Livre. Three months later, he skidded again and reduced the bench in Brussels from two to one deputy. In other words, the change of faces in the leadership was not enough to change the party’s downward trajectory.
