Operation Fizz: former prosecutor Orlando Figueira detained by the PJ

Former prosecutor Orlando Figueira was arrested this morning by the Judiciary Police (PJ). According to the PJ statement, Orlando Figueira was taken to the Évora Prison.

The arrest was made through the National Anti-Corruption Unit, which “located and detained the former prosecutor”, sentenced, in December 2018, by the Central Criminal Court of the Judicial Court of the District of Lisbon, “to an effective prison sentence of six years and eight months for the crimes of corruption, money laundering, violation of judicial secrecy and document forgery”, says the PJ, in a statement.

“The warrant for the Évora Prison, issued last Monday, was carried out by this Police as determined by the Central Criminal Court of Lisbon”, the statement said.

The PJ recalls that “several judicial instances have proven that Orlando Figueira received more than 760 thousand euros from the former vice president of Angola, Manuel Vicente, in exchange for benefits in the processes targeting the latter in the Central Department of Investigation and Criminal Action” .
