New music for the weekend: Carminho with Steve Albini, Charli XCX’s ‘brat’ remixes and Manuel João Vieira’s swallows

With the excellent “Portuguesa” still fresh, Carminho is back with what is his first EP, “Carminho at Electrical Audio”, recorded in co-production with Steve Albini, who died last May, in his studio in Chicago on the 10th of October 2023. “Anyone who worked with Steve Albini knows his humble authenticity and dedication to the perfection of raw sound”, says the fado singer about the musician, who left his mark on albums by Pixies, Nirvana or PJ Harvey, “he made the recordings sounded as if we were performing in a fado house in Lisbon. Our creative process on this EP was a true collaboration. Albini’s genius influence is undeniable. Although the music industry has lost an incredible talent, in some ways, he lives on in our songs.” The album consists of four tracks, the first of which is a version of ‘Os Argonautas’, in a duet with Caetano Veloso.
