“Nasrallah is dead”. Israel announces death of Hezbollah leader

The Israeli army announced this Saturday the death of the leader of the Lebanese Islamic movement Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, during an airstrike on Friday on the organization’s headquarters in Beirut.

“Hassan Nasrallah is dead,” declared army spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani on social media, quoted by the French agency AFP. Another army spokesman, Captain David Avraham, confirmed to AFP that the Hezbollah leader was eliminated, as were other Hezbollah commanders who were in the same location, in Dahiyeh, in the southern suburbs of Beirut, in a densely populated neighborhood. village.

Hezbollah has not yet confirmed this information.

Nasrallah rose to the leadership of the movement in 1992, replacing Abbas Musawi, after he was also killed during an Israeli helicopter attack. Born in August 1960, his adolescence was marked by the Lebanese civil war. When Israel invaded Lebanon, Nasrallah joined a group of fighters that would evolve into today’s Hezbollah. He was its leader for 32 years. He lived in hiding, rarely appearing in public, and a veritable cult of personality was built around him.
