Dafter the fuss caused by “Poor Creatures†, an eccentric film that divided waters, loved by many and detested by so many others, and once this undertaking with fish-eye lenses capable of crossing Victorian mansions with luxury liners and Mary Shelley with cream puffs, to which were added the golden praise of the Venetian Lion and four Oscars from the Academy, “Stories of Kindness†, the new film by Yorgos Lanthimos, is a voluntary step back ¡ in the expected escalation, a sign of modesty, first commendable on the part of the Greek filmmaker. From the previous work, Lanthimos brought Willem Dafoe and Emma Stone, to which he added Jesse Plemons and Margaret Qualley (the girl that almost all of us discovered asking Brad Pitt for a ride in Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood†had a stunning Cannes Festival and presence in two films in the competition). He called them with the desire to make a buddy film, as if the intention was to escape the Hollywood traps into which he fell with greater or lesser awareness, or, at least, to take a break from these wanderings. , a peripheral thing, a bit like the city in which the film was shot, New Orleans. Lanthimos owes the absurd side of his scripts to him, a certain sharp-knife derision that put him on the map.
