Middle East: Hezbollah guarantees that attacks on Israel will continue

The Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah assured that it will continue attacks against Israel, in response to the death of its commander Niamah Nasser, whose funeral took place today involving a crowd, in the southern suburbs of Beirut.

“A series of responses began quickly yesterday (Wednesday) night and continues today and will continue to target new positions that the enemy would never have imagined,” said the head of Hezbollah’s executive council, Hashem Safi al-Din, in a speech given at Nasser’s funeral.

Nasser, known as “Hajj Abu Niamah”, commanded the Aziz Unit of the Shiite group and was killed on Wednesday, in an Israeli bombing attack on the vehicle he was traveling in, in the al-Housh area, in southern Lebanon, becoming, thus, the third victim of this type in almost nine months of fighting.

The leader of the executive council recalled during his speech that in the last two days “hundreds of shells and dozens of drones” had already been launched to avenge the commander’s death.

“In our resistance, no flag falls and no front is disjointed, because when a leader dies, another receives the flag and continues (the work) with new insistence. When we say goodbye to the martyrs, our insistence is reinforcement ada,” he added.

Safi al-Din also considered that Nasser’s death did not give any “military advantage” to Israel, whose army is on the verge of a “crushing defeat” after almost nine months of war in the Gaza Strip and clashes with Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Nasser’s coffin, covered in Hezbollah yellow and with a photograph of him, was carried through the streets of Dahye, one of Hezbollah’s main strongholds in the country.

Hundreds of people attended the funeral, waving Hezbollah flags.

According to a biography released by the armed movement, the commander had been part of its ranks since 1986, fought during the Israeli invasion of southern Lebanon until 2000 and also participated in the 2006 war against the Jewish State.

He is the third high-ranking commander killed since the start of hostilities between the parties, last October, and the second in the last three weeks, after commander Abu Taleb was killed in another Israeli bombing in southern Lebanon, on the 11th. of June.
