Metallica’s official account on X was the target of a computer attack this week.
On Wednesday, Metallica’s official account published the announcement of the sale of a new cryptocurrency, entitled “$METAL”, without the group’s own knowledge. The announcement also indicated that this cryptocurrency had been designed in partnership with Ticketmaster.
Fans could, through “$METAL†, purchase merchandising of Metallica, as well as tickets for the group’s concerts. According to data from “Dexscreenerâ€, “$METAL†reached a market value of 3.15 million euros per unit, dropping to 84 thousand euros as soon as it was discovered to be a scam.
Metallica have not made any public comment on the case, despite having shared the publication of the MoonPay cryptocurrency transfer platform, in which it states “it is not providing any support†to “$METAL†.
