Mercadona invested one billion euros in five years in Portugal

This Tuesday, the Spanish supermarket chain Mercadona marks five years since the opening of its first store in Portugal, where it has so far invested one billion euros and opened 50 stores.

In a statement, Mercadona recalled that since the opening of the first supermarket in the country, in the parish of Canidelo, Vila Nova de Gaia, on July 2, 2019, “it has invested a total of one billion euros in Portugal, which allowed it to open, until To date, it has 50 stores, two logistics blocks and employs six thousand workers.

“The internationalization project in Portugal allowed Mercadona to meet new national producers and integrate them into its range of suppliers, something that will be increased as the project progresses”, pointed out the company, adding which has already made more than three billion euros in purchases from national suppliers since 2019.
