Marco Paulo (1945-2024): “Great artists have difficulty saying goodbye. Marco Paulo also needed the public to live”

Miguel Cadete, director of BLITZ and deputy director of Expresso, commented on SIC Notícias, this morning, the news of Marco Paulo’s death, who left us this Thursday, at the age of 79.

Highlighting the great success achieved by Marco Paulo in the 70s and 80s – “He still appears in the charts of artists with the most albums sold, very close to, if not even surpassing, big names like Amália Rodrigues or Duo Ouro Negro” -, Miguel Cadete spoke about the the singer’s collaboration with producer Mário Martins, who adapted international hits for his voice.

“He was an undervalued singer in some more elitist circles, but it is worth highlighting the voice of Marco Paulo, considered by all his peers as an excellent singer”, recalls the director of BLITZ.

“Great artists and athletes have great difficulty saying goodbye [da ribalta]”, concluded Miguel Cadete. “Marco Paulo also continued to have great public exposure, singing and participating in TV programs. He needed the public to live and it was like that until the end.”
