The President of the Republic said this Tuesday that he hoped that the “spirit of dialogue and understanding” between the Government and security forces would continue, after the Prime Minister assume that there will not be “not one more cent” in the proposal made to professionals. “I hope the spirit of dialogue and understanding continues. The security forces are an example of civic dignity, of responsibility at the service of security and people and in this sense, there will certainly be an opportunity to continue talking to political leaders and those responsible. good politicians with their forces”, said Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
The head of state was speaking to journalists on the sidelines of a visit to the automobile factory in Mangualde, district of Viseu, owned by the Stellantis group, but warned from the beginning that he would not comment on the statements made by the prime minister shortly before .
“The Government will not put even one cent more into the proposal it presented because we made a terrible effort”, assumed Luís Montenegro at the end of the PSD Parliamentary Days, in Sintra. Luís Montenegro said it was important to value these professional groups, but warned that he was not willing to question “internal and external credibility” or to give up resources in order to stimulate the economy.
Asked if he fears the possibility of not reaching an agreement, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa said it was necessary to “see what happens in the future”, but, he added, “Security forces will never jeopardize security“. “On the contrary, they are exemplary safety factors in our country”, he highlighted.
Another thing, he added, is what has to do with “the discussion of the remuneration status and the assessment of this remuneration status between the political power and the security forces” and, in this sense, argued that “the doors of dialogue, the bridges, will certainly remain open”. “I would say that on both sides there is an awareness of how important it is for this problem to be addressed and resolved and, therefore, it is a matter of finding formulas for the problem”, he concluded.
