Joaquín Salvador Lavado Tejón began drawing very early under the influence of a painter uncle, also called Joaquín Tejón, which gave rise to , to distinguish them, to the abbreviated name of the newest member of the family. After a stint at the Academy of Fine Arts in Mendoza, Quino decides that he wants to do comics, focusing on humor, and starts knocking on the doors of various newspapers and magazines in Buenos Aires, the city where he eventually settles in 1954. However, he completed his military service and it was in this environment that he began to gain social and political awareness, as he would say later in several interviews, as he interacted with comrades from different social strata.
