Lowering the IRS this year was a “commitment” that “is no longer valid”, assumes Castro Almeida

In recent weeks, the Government has cast doubts on the constitutionality of the IRS reduction approved by the Government and has not given a black and white answer as to whether the IRS will be lowered this year, through withholding tax rates, as he had promised if the measure approved was his. Faced with the change in circumstances, that is, with the approval in Parliament of a measure with the design of the PS, Manuel Castro Almeida considers that the Executive’s “promise†and “commitment†“no longer standingâ€

Do you consider that the reduction in the IRS, as it stands, is unconstitutional?
I am not a constitutionalist, but I think we should always defend the principle that Parliament should not impose financial burdens on the Government, against its will, in the current year. We have to be scrupulous in defending this principle, under penalty of lack of accountability in political life – then we don’t know who is responsible for the State Budget or who to hold accountable. It is essential that there is no increase in charges or decrease in revenue in the current year.

The commitment that the PSD made was with a certain package, if the rules of the package changed, the commitment no longer stands.

Do you admit that the Government does not lower this year and leaves everything for next year?
Let’s see.
