Local authorities: IL refuses “immediate negotiations” with PSD, but does not close the door to coalitions in 2025
Be left, invitations to dialogue with a view to local authorities are public, the right chooses not to lift the veil too much. But, after the European elections, there were also exploratory conversations between PSD and IL, with an eye on the next vote, according to what Expresso learned. The liberals were once again challenged by the Social Democrats for agreements at the municipal level, after in 2021 the IL had integrated only seven coalitions in its first municipal elections and ran on its own track in 46 municipalities.
The Liberal Initiative’s (IL) strategy of going, as a rule, to votes alone may no longer make sense next year, after the party, created in 2017, has managed to assert itself in the last few votes, marking its presence in all parliaments (national, regional of Madeira and Azores and European Parliament) and maintaining the growth path, despite having missed electoral targets three times.
