Last phase of the competition for access to higher education starts today with 3,030 places

From today onwards, students can apply for the 3rd phase of the National Competition for Access to Higher Education (CNAES), with 3,030 places in university and polytechnic courses.

This is the last opportunity for students to apply for higher education this year, with applications open between today and Tuesday, according to the calendar of the Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES).

Institution vacancies are available on the DGES website, and once again there are slightly more places in polytechnic institutes than in universities.

According to the data that Lusa had access to, there are only 10 courses with more than 20 places and they are located in the polytechnic institutes of Santarém, Setúbal and Leiria and in the universities of Lisbon, Porto and Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro .

The Agronomy course at the Polytechnic Institute of Santarém – Escola Superior Agrária stands out for being the one with the most places (31 places).

Students will be able to compete for 3,030 places in 634 courses, 174 of which will have just one place.

There will also be 10 more places for the nursing course at the Escola Superior de Enfermagem de Lisboa and another three for the school in Porto.

In the 2nd phase, around eight thousand students were placed and almost four thousand places remained, but institutions have the autonomy to decide whether they want to make all these places available.

The rule is that the number of vacancies in the 3rd phase is equal to or less than the remaining vacancies in the 2nd phase.

To date, more than 50 thousand students have already secured a place on a university or polytechnic course, according to the results of the 1st and 2nd phases of CNAES.

In the 1st phase, 49,963 were placed, but only 45,268 (91%) enrolled and registered.

In the 2nd phase, the results of which were known a week ago, around eight thousand students were placed.

The results of the 3rd phase will be known on September 30th, the day registrations begin and registrations end on October 2nd.
