IL entered the Convention divided and left united against the Government and the Public Ministry

“We are much better at creating political programs than at approving statutes.†. This is how Rui Rocha gave a brief overview of the VIII Convention of the Liberal Initiative (IL) during his closing speech at the main meeting. A meeting marked on the first day by criticism of the party’s functioning, which showed a party divided over the lead of the two proposed changes to the statutes and on the second day by a broad consensus on the new political program, which received green light with 98% of the votes (511 in favor, 10 abstentions and only one vote against).

For the IL leader, the Statutory Convention, which ended this Sunday in Santa Maria da Feira, marks the end of a six-year cycle from the beginning of the party’s principles to the path that took the party to become the fourth political force and to have a presence in all Parliaments (national, regional and European).
