He arrives dissatisfied with the Government’s anti-corruption proposals: “Robust package will not happen”

This is the second round of meetings between the Minister of Justice and parties with parliamentary seats, but, according to Chega, Rita Júdice still does not present concrete proposals to combat corruption. “At the previous meeting it was understood that we would be preparing a more robust anti-corruption program. That won’t happen,” said deputy Cristina Rodrigues, from Chega, after leaving the meeting this Tuesday in Parliament.

“We expected that they would already be concrete proposals,†lamented Cristina Rodrigues, expressing that Chega deputies were “satisfied†with two pieces of information put forward by the Government at the meeting: the desire to regulate lobbying and change ions in the confiscation of assets.

“Another very relevant point concerns the confiscation of assets, which was another of Chega’s priorities†, said the deputy without, however, revealing whether the Government goes as far as André Ventura wanted in its electoral program, which included the possibility of using assets confiscated from corruption suspects even without conviction. has become final and unappealable.

In an interview with Expresso, the leader of Chega even admitted constitutionality problems with this measure, but argued that “it could be feasible†.

Regarding other Chega proposals, the deputy said there was “no interest†from the Government, namely in changing prescription periods and increasing penalties. There will also be, according to Cristina Rodrigues, no desire to impose a ban on holding public office on those convicted of corruption.

“Only in this way can we prevent new cases of corruption,†defended the deputy.
