Goodbye, rain. Hello, heat. There is good news for those who go on vacation and want to go to the beach

If you are going on vacation next week there is good news for you. The rain will go away and maximum temperatures will rise across the country. After a very unstable June, with almost no signs of summer, the month will end with an improvement in weather conditions.

If this Saturday five districts are under yellow warning and another 10 under orange warning, due to rain and thunderstorms, on Sunday, meteorological conditions will begin to gradually improve across the entire territory.†œIn the morning there will still be light precipitation, especially on the coast, but from the afternoon onwards you can expect a progressive improvement in the weather.†, meteorologist Jorge Pinto, from IPMA (Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere), tells Expresso.

According to the expert, a frontal system associated with a depression centered west of the Iberian Peninsula will move northeast, leaving the region, which will correspond to an improvement in meteorological conditions at the end of the end. of the week. “From Monday there will be no precipitation and temperatures are expected to rise across the country, especially in the south. It will be a gradual increase throughout the week†adds Jorge Pinto.

In Lisbon, maximum temperatures are expected to be around 23/24 degrees on Monday and rise to 27 and 29 degrees in the following days, while in Beja and Évora, maximum temperatures should start at 31 degrees and rise to 37 and 38, respectively, on Wednesday. In Faro, maximum temperatures should fluctuate between 28 and 31 degrees throughout the week.

In Coimbra, thermometers should vary between 25 and 32 degrees, while in Porto the maximum temperatures will be milder, between 24 and 27 degrees.

But not everything is good news for those who are thinking about going to the beach next week: in the coastal strip there will be some moderate winds throughout the week. It will not be a strong breeze, as is usual on summer afternoons, but it will give a “lower thermal sensation†, notes Jorge Pinto,

Asked whether summer will be here to stay, the IPMA expert believes that it is to be expected, although he emphasizes that it is only possible to anticipate meteorological conditions with greater accuracy a week in advance. “We hope to have normal summer weather, with higher temperatures, especially inland. It’s always difficult to be sure whether another episode or another of instability could come, but the tendency is to stabilize,” he observes.

The instability recorded this month is not due to any particular phenomenon: “it is normal variability in our climate, especially in June. But there are years when it is felt more than in others”, he concludes.
