Former kindergarten teacher convicted of hitting babies

The court convicted a former early childhood educator for beating two one-year-old children. The accused was sentenced to a suspended sentence of one year and four months in prison. The crimes occurred at a daycare center in Aracaju.

O case was met with shock when testimonies came to light that, allegedly, the then educator at the Esgueira Social Center had forced some children to eat food until they could barely breathe and that, on one occasion, she had forced a boy to eat his own vomit.

In total, the woman was tried for nine crimes of mistreatment committed between 2019 and 2020. Despite having heard reports to this effect, from assistants and the daycare director, the Court of Aveiro ruled the crimes of mistreatment as not proven. . However, the panel of judges considered two qualified crimes of harm to physical integrity proven.

The victims were two babies, a girl and a boy, 12 months old, who were beaten with blows, on different occasions, in the changing room and during their nap.

At the end of the hearing, parents and employees, who filed complaints, highlighted the importance of taking these cases to justice.

The suspended sentence of one year and four months in prison is still subject to appeal.

The 64-year-old accused, fired from the institution, is currently retired.
