An explosion at the headquarters of the company YDreams, located in the technological park of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the New University of Lisbon (FCT-UNL), in Caparica, in Almada, caused one death this Thursday, reported Proteçà Civil. According to SIC, the incident occurred following pressure tests in a container belonging to the aerial material technology company. “Despite operating within the ‘campus’, it is autonomous”, indicated the higher education institution.
“The affected area is peripheral and away from the area used by students, teachers, researchers or employees, and is operated by several private companies operating independently of NOVA FCT,†the college detailed in a statement , explaining that it continues to “cooperate with the authorities†and regretting the “existence of a fatal victim resulting from the explosion†.
According to the Sub-regional Command of the Setúbal Peninsula, in statements to the Lusa agency, there is a record of “one fatal victim”, with the death being declared on site at 1:36 pm. There is also a serious injury, “which is not directly related to the explosion†. “Allegedly he may have suffered a sudden illness.”
Eight rescue vehicles and 20 operational vehicles were mobilized to the site, namely from the Trafaria Volunteer Firefighters, the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) and the National Republican Guard (GNR). The explosion alert was given at 12:45 pm, in the technology park of the Faculty of Science and Technology of Universidade Nova de Lisboa, according to the same source.
