TWe see a star as the guarantor of life on Earth. Without it, without the Sun, we would not be here, at least in the form we are. We learn from a young age that life depends on sunlight and looking around at nature, it is easy to see that this is the case. But the human species, in its avid appropriation of the planet it inhabits – not the Sun or the stars yet – has for a long time developed systems that not only make our relationship difficult connection with the Sun as they could – in fact, still – make it impossible for this source of energy to sustain life on Earth.
