Dozens of countries condemn the sending of North Korean weapons to Russia at the UN
A group of 48 countries, including Portugal, today condemned in a joint statement at the UN “the illegal transfers of weapons from North Korea to Russia, which significantly helped” Moscow to conduct its war against Ukraine.
The war was triggered by the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Kiev has received financial and arms support from Western allies, including NATO countries (the North Atlantic Treaty Organization), of which Portugal is one of the 32 members.
Kiev’s allies have also imposed sanctions on Russia to try to reduce Russia’s ability to finance the war effort in Ukraine.
