Douro Line suspended between Régua and Pocinho due to derailment

Railway traffic is suspended between Peso da Régua and Pocinho, on the Douro Line, due to the derailment of a ‘boggie’, one of the wheels on the train, said a source from Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP).

The derailment occurred at 8:30 am and was due to a collision with a rock that was on the railway line and, according to the company, there are currently no plans to resume circulation on this section.

The ‘boggie’ is the set of wheelsets on which the carriage sits.

According to the IP source, the incident took place at kilometer 114 of the Douro Line, between the Covelinhas and Pinhão stations, in the Vila Real district, with only material damage recorded.

CP informs, on social media, that due to the suspension of circulation between Régua and Pocinho, the Douro Historic Train will be suspended and that customers who have purchased a ticket can request a refund.

Due to the forecast of heavy and persistent rain, the districts of Vila Real, Porto, Viseu and Aveiro have been under orange warning since 06:00, which should be in force until 12:00 in the case of Porto, until 15:00 in Vila Real and until 18:00 in Aveiro and Viseu, while the district of Coimbra will be under orange warning between 12:00 and 18:00.
