Dogs waiting for adoption enter the field before the 1st Football League games

Institutionalized dogs awaiting adoption entered the field with the AVS and Farense teams last Monday, September 30th, an initiative that will be replicated in other rounds of the I Football League, announced the Club League.

The initiative brings together the Portuguese Professional Football League (LPFP), its foundation, and the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests (CNF) to “promote responsible adoption and raise awareness in society about the reality of stray animals”, according to a statement from LPFP.

The “Don’t leave me out of the game” campaign started on Monday, at AVS-Farense, a game that ended the seventh round, before International Animal Day, on October 4th, and will continue “in the next rounds” of the I League .

Another measure concerns a platform where animals that have entered the field can be adopted, with the League recalling that “more than 930,000 animals” are estimated to be straying in mainland Portugal alone, “a growing concern” .

“In 2023, official collection centers welcomed 45,162 stray animals, of which around 15 thousand did not find a home, a situation that not only affects the welfare of the animals, but also challenges the management capacity of the reception centers. responsible adoption is a fundamental step towards changing this reality”, can be read in the released note.
