It was, without a doubt, the target of all the criticism in the demonstration of the Just Life Movement that appealed this Saturday afternoon to “justice for Odair Moniz”. The PSP was under fire and most of the posters were displayed by the protesters, but the truth is that the protest took place without any incident despite having brought together around 3 thousand people, many of them from neighborhoods on the outskirts of Lisbon, similar to the one that took place. of the tragic death of Odair Moniz at the hands of a young police officer.
In a statement released at the end of this demonstration and another organized by Enough to have mobilized 200 peoplethe National leadership begins by praising the “civility” and “serenity” of the protesters, but also praises its own operatives: “The Police opted for a strong collection of information, namely through open sources, in order to continuously monitor and collect news, permanently evaluate the potential risks associated with the initiatives and carry out an appropriate police operation adjusted to the security needs of all those involved and from third parties”.
In fact, despite the presence of many young people with their faces covered, posters that accused the PSP of “killing” and even being compared to pigs, the agents present always opted for remote policing.
Among the protesters, concern was evident to avoid any disrespect or explosion of violence. The night before, thirteen cars and five motorcycles were burned in Benfica and other areas of Lisbon. Since the day Odair was killed – Monday, October 21st – there have been three days of riots and now acts of vandalism.
But in this demonstration there were only slogans. “It is important, therefore, to thank all the citizens who took part in these demonstrations, for their high civic behavior and respect for the instructions of the police officers on duty”, praises the PSP.
