Costa’s wiretaps went through 12 judges but none ordered them destroyed

The wiretaps that caught António Costa talking about the resignation of the TAP president went through at least 12 judges but at no point was the destruction of the phone calls ordered. Furthermore, for more than three years, former minister João Galamba’s cell phone was being listened to and conversations were heard with Presidents of the Assembly of the Republic, ministers and mayors.

When he took office as Minister of Infrastructure in January 2023, João Galamba had already had his cell phone tapped for almost three years. He was listened to when he was Secretary of State and continued to be listened to when he replaced Pedro Nuno Santos.

Which means that over the years, in addition to António Costa, João Galamba, ministers, mayors, and even two presidents of the Assembly of the Republic were also caught in the telephone interceptions.

A Vision magazine says Augusto Santos Silva he will have been heard talking about TAP and the president of the National Data Protection Commission.

Already Eduardo Ferro Rodrigues will have been heard about the Assembly of the Republic’s candidacy for a sustainable buildings program and Carlos Moedas about the interest of an international organization in opening a headquarters in Lisbon.

Operation Influencer will also have come across conversations with Pedro Nuno Santos, Duarte Cordeiro and lawyer Pedro Cutileiro, who is currently an advisor to the current president of the Assembly of the Republic.

There are long hours of recordings captured over more than three years and, according to Visão, between the first instance and the higher courts they passed through the hands of at least 12 different judges.

Operation Influencer began by investigating the lithium business. In March 2020, João Galamba was photographed by PSP having lunch with a Dutch businessman who presented the hydrogen project in Sines to the Government.

The then Secretary of State then exchanged messages with this businessman, which led the Public Ministry to include João Galamba on the list of suspects and to be interviewed from May 2020.

João Galamba went from Secretary of State to Minister and in October last year the investigation took to the streets with a huge search operation. The wiretaps had been going on for more than three years and to this day they have not been destroyed…
