There will be 50 port and waterway auctions in 2025 alone. This was the announcement that the Minister of Ports and Airports Silvio Costa Filho did it in Portugal, as part of a road show in Spain and Portugal in search of investments. The goal is to obtain more than 20 billion reais (3.6 billion euros), most of it in foreign capital.

Furthermore, Minister Silvio Costa Filho, of ports and airports, confirmed the Portuguese government’s decision to maintain current flights between Brazil and Portugal. Currently, air connections between the two countries depart from 13 Brazilian cities to two airports in Portugal, Lisbon and Porto.

Before arriving in Lisbon, the minister was in Madrid, where the reinforcement of air links between Brazil and Spain was announced. There will be more flights from Madrid to São Paulo and new air connections between Recife and Fortaleza with the Spanish capital, which is scheduled for 2025.

The minister informed that the auction schedule should last up to three years. The first phase will include 45 ports, in several Brazilian states. Concessions in the port area will include terminals for solid bulk, liquids and containers. In the area of waterways, which is also a priority of the current Brazilian government, the forecast is that five lines will be granted. “We are very confident, as we see that many investors around the world are interested in this sector. They come from Europe, the United States, Saudi Arabia and China, mainly”, he stated.

One of Costa Filho’s themes in Portugal was the expansion of the commercial partnership between the port of Sines and Brazilian ports, such as Santos (São Paulo), Paranaguá (Paraná) and Pecém (Ceará). To develop this partnership, the Brazilian minister invited the person responsible for the Infrastructure and Housing from Portugal, Miguel Pinto Luz, to go to Brazil next year. “On this trip we must sign a permanent cooperation agreement that will enable a more effective partnership between Brazil and Portugal”, he reported.

Costa Filho also addressed issues related to energy in Lisbon. He met with the board of GALP Energiathe largest company in the sector, which includes, among its investments, oil exploration and renewable energy and has been operating in Brazil since 2000. “GALP is today a major commercial partner for Brazil in this area and should also participate in the decarbonization of transport Brazilian airline, as it does in Portugal”.

According to GALP advice, decarbonization will be possible by replacing aviation kerosene (QAV) with green fuel, SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel). In chemical terms, SAF fuel has similar properties and meets fossil fuel quality specifications. It can be used without the need for any modifications to the airports’ supply logistics infrastructure and aircraft engines.
