Books: The personal Camões by Frederico Lourenço

SLet’s be honest: how many Portuguese people today are entertained by “Os LusÃadas†or even by a shorter work like “Sôbolos Rios que Vão†, the final piece of the anthology in this volume? Not that much recent poetry is read, but it is natural that young people who studied “Os LusÃadas†in high school are unwilling to revisit an author who, in the end, is imperialist, racist and other things that are frowned upon. . Frederico Lourenço highlights evidence of this in corner X of the “LusÃadas†, and it is not only there that they appear. But we must recognize that Camões talks about them by the way (except imperialism) and which limits itself to reflecting the concepts of its time, which was some time ago.
