Beach, nature and Azorean heritage in the state of Santa Catarina

From fishing villages to seaside resorts, the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina has it all. Mara Gonçalves and Daniel Rocha caught a ride with TAP to Florianópolis and from there explored the state that borders Rio Grande do Sul.

From Floripa – Brazilians find the name difficult to say in full, they abbreviate it like this – to Balneário Camboriú, from Garopaba to Praia Grande, they discovered cosmopolitan beaches and fishing villages, they flew over canyons by balloon, they met Dinho, a 68-year-old man who fell in love with bobbin lace. And they flowed into Santo Antônio de Lisboa, the most Azorean village in Santa Catarina, where the legacy of the archipelago is still very visible, from the Divino Espírito Santo festivals to the cassava flour mills.
