Banks will pay the same to protect deposits and taxpayers (after a year of record profits)

Every year, Portuguese banks have to pay contributions to the fund that protects deposits (Deposit Guarantee Fund) and to the fund that guarantees that taxpayers are not called upon to endure difficulties in banks (Resolution Fund). Contributions that will remain next year, in order to obtain the same amount – despite the fact that the sector experienced, in 2024, its best year ever, which has already led some parties to ask for increased contributions.
