Airport: Government must define schedule without waiting for ANA to decide

The coordinator of the Independent Technical Commission (CTI) of the new airport defended this Tuesday that the Government must define a schedule for the construction of infrastructure at the Alcochete Shooting Field, without waiting for ANA to decide.

“For now, the Government can think – with the Government leading the process – about what it has to do. Have a schedule, not wait for the concessionaire to say what the programming, this can start to be done, while waiting for the concessionaire to respond in these six months, about how it proposes to move forward”, Rosário Partidário told journalists, in a statement §ions on the sidelines of the 27th ATRS Conference (Air Transport Research Society), in Lisbon.

Rosário Partidário argued that it is possible to have the new airport operating in 2030, as indicated in the CTI report, as long as there is planning, organization and quick decisions.

“The dealership [ANA Aeroportos] You have six months to say this [como pretende avançar face à decisão do Governo]but if for any reason you decide to follow the procedure that is in the concession contract, we will be waiting five years for any machine to start doing its job on the ground”, considered the CTI official.

Rosário Partidário considered that the new airport is a “national emergency” and recalled that ANA “had already been planning a new airport since 2013”, but refused to build it at Campo de Tiro de Alcochete.

“It’s not something that’s new, what has to be done, the studies, the procedures. It’s a matter of planning quickly and not waiting for the procedures and the times that are stipulated in the concession contract”, he highlighted.

At the end of May, the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Miguel Pinto Luz, announced that negotiations with Vinci/ANA for the construction of Luís de Camões airport would begin in the following days .

In the middle of the same month, the Government had approved the construction of the new airport in the Lisbon region at Campo de Tiro de Alcochete, following the recommendation of the Independent Technical Commission (CTI) .

The Air Force Shooting Field, also known as Alcochete Shooting Field (due to its proximity to this urban center), is mainly located in the parish of Samora Correia, in the municipality of Benavente (district of Santarém) , still having a small part in the parish of Canha, now in the municipality of Montijo (district of Setúbal).
