Aeros MH-1: Portuguese satellite sent the first images of Earth and should be fully operational by the end of the year

The Portuguese Aeros MH-1 satellite sent the first images captured in space to antennas located in the Azores. After a period of testing and configuration, the satellite managed to capture images of planet Earth – for the consortium made up of Thales Edisoft and the CEIIA engineering center, this is one of the most awaited news, because confirms that the optical camera is functioning as desired. However, there are still more procedures and tests to be developed until the satellite’s full operability is guaranteed.

“Our goal is that, before the end of the year, we will have completed this testing phase, but we want to achieve it sooner,†informs Teresa Cardoso, director of Strategy, Innovation and Aerospace and Security from Thales Edisoft†, which has been taking over the operations of the Portuguese satellite.

In this first wave of images sent by MH-1, there are photos that were captured during the flight over Australia, French Polynesia, and Canada. The images are of low resolution, but the moment was welcomed at the CEIIA Engineering Center, which owns the satellite: “We are happy with the reception of these very beautiful images . These tests are normal. Satellite operations have complex logistics,†says Rui Magalhães, director of the Space area at CEIIA.
